Girl-led Camping
Would you like more camping weekends with older girls? Local camping trips could be planned virtually with girls and adults, scheduled at local campgrounds, and focused on camping skills and girl-led activities. Leaders, girls and outdoor trainers are invited to start sharing ideas at an initial meeting. It is tentatively set for Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 to 7:30 pm, but may be shifted, so check here for final date. Zoom link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84498835228, passcode: juliette. Contact Anne Fege w/ questions or with ideas (if you can't attend the meeting), afege@aol.com, 858-472-1293
This meeting will explore ideas, opportunities and challenges, and interest in starting with a “pilot” weekend this spring. Meeting hosts are Fege and Alyssa Navapanich, both outdoor trainers, former older girl leaders, and co-advisors to Girls for Environmental Action (GEA).
Initial ideas, from discussions in fall 2022:
Planning in virtual/zoom meetings
Activities that are girl-led and -chosen
Patrol structure, perhaps by age level
Site utilization of reserved campgrounds, including girl and adult tents for each sites
Activity approval forms
Meal planning and payment
Equipment for group camping and cooking
Personal equipment list, including tents
Qualifications and training for adults
Transportation to/from campground
Group expenditures and payment (CG site and other)
Other outdoor activities are organized by the Backpackers and the new High Adventure and Service Troop (interest troop)
